BACKGROUND HISTORY
Starport Bangladesh (PTE) Ltd.’s story began in 2006 within the waters of the nation’s wealth “The Bay of Bengal”. Spanning over 150,000 square kilometers, the Bay of Bengal is home to a rich marine ecosystem with over hundreds of distinct species discovered till date. The cultural importance of fish in this region can date back to a few hundred centuries. Thus, the significance of deep-sea fishing in the country is not surprising at all. Yet, Deep Sea fishing at the time (2006) comprised of artisanal fishers using non mechanized boats and very few wooden/steels bodied vessels which were primarily shrimp trawlers. The Bay of Bengal had a lot more to offer.
We aimed to challenge the status quo by introducing industrial white fish trawlers equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology to enhance this industry. Today, there are more than 200 white fish trawlers operating in the Bay of Bengal and their contribution to the economy of Bangladesh can be directly traced back to the risks taken by us. We thrive to adapt to modern technologies and practices to improve the deep-sea fishing industry. Strictly adhering to responsible fishing practices, the company is focusing on creating awareness for sustainable fishing to protect the nation’s wealth

VISION
At Starport, we are devoted to ensuring the freshness of the fish to preserve authenticity of its taste and nutrients. As advocates of integrity and transparency, we are adamant to never compromise on the quality of the products we deliver. Cultivating a deep relationship with all the key stakeholders I.e., local fishermen, fish wholesalers, government agencies [ Department of fisheries, Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC), MFD etc.], non-government agencies [Bangladesh marine fisheries association], we are continuously thriving to develop new fishing techniques to manage and sustain stocks of all fish species in the region. Hence, we do not condone exploitation of the nation’s wealth through malpractices such as overfishing, fishing in breeding grounds, usage of illegal nets etc. Thus, we envision a sustainable future with a healthy marine ecosystem capable enough to providefresh seafood to the entire population for generations to come.

Starport has already deservedly earned a reputation of being synonymous with strong ethics in the Karnafuli region. Nevertheless, do not take our word for it, rather, the key stakeholders in the region will attest to our claims.
